GIFTED ENDORSEMENT PROGRAMS

ENDORSEMENT: Gifted In-Field DESCRIPTION (200 contact hours, 20 PLUs) North Georgia RESA offers a PSC approved Gifted In-Field Endorsement. North Georgia RESA's Gifted In-Field Endorsement Program is designed to train local candidates to identify and teach gifted students from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and economic backgrounds. This program ensures that its graduates have in-dept knowledge of teaching the gifted and talented students. The assignments, performance tasks, and assessment for each course will serve as the basis for ensuring that candidates have this knowledge. Program candidates will complete 200 hours of coursework and applied field experiences; content knowledge will be integrated across courses to help ensure mastery and coverage. Candidates applying to enroll in the Gifted In-Field Endorsement Program for Professional Learning Units (PLU) must meet the following qualifications: 1) Candidates must hold a valid, clear and renewable Georgia Teaching Certificate. 2) Candidates must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with a minimum 2.0 GPA 3) Candidates must be currently employed by a member Georgia school system 4) Candidates must have at least one year of successful teaching experience. 5) Candidates must have a satisfactory annual evaluation verified by the candidate’s principal and be approved by the candidate’s professional learning director. 6) Candidates must complete all application forms.

**COURSE TOPICS INCLUDE: An Overview of the Gifted Endorsement Program, Understanding of the Concept of Giftedness, Historical Perspective of Gifted Education, Current Research on Giftedness, Characteristics of Giftedness, Gifted and Learning Exceptionalities, Diversity in Gifted and Talented Students. FIELD EXPERIENCES: Observation of Gifted Students, Interview Gifted Students/Parents.
